2024-07-16 20:54:41 +0000 UTCRegarding the earlier discussion in first few mins of the video, All We Imagine as Light should be India's Oscar Pick. Manjummal Boys, Laapata Ladies and Aattam are also amazing choices. The chances of All We imagine as Light being nominated and even winning are really good considering Janus Films(EO, Drive My car) has picked it, and that happened even before it won Grand Prix. The big problem is that India actually needs to send this as their oscar entry and that is something that they cannot be trusted with for political reasons(Payal's last film, A Night of Knowing Nothing was not allowed to release in India by the govt, and when you watch it, you will know exactly why) and even if we leave politics aside, the Film Federation is so incompetent and pathetic that chances of them messing up this opportunity is high. Payal Kapadia who in 2015 faced disciplinary action for protesting against the appointment of Fascist Government's Stooge Gajendra Chauhan as FTII Chairman. She had lost her scholarship and is still facing Court Case. Infact next month is her next court hearing by the case launched against her by FTII(and Govt of India by proxy). Indian cinema has been weaponized hugely by Indian govt for their propaganda, espcially Bollywood and to a huge extent, Tollywood. Kuddos to Malayalam and Tamil cinema who still dare to stand up and resist. Unless someone from Film federation goes rogue, I dont see them sending All we Imagine as Light to oscars. Imagine the pathetic Indian Film Federation rejecting this Gem of a movie, that has created History at Cannes, and also has gotten a huge Distributer that has a track record of mounting successful Oscar campaign, Only for France to send it and then it wins LOL. That would make me so sad but also, I would be really happy for the cast and crew because they deserve it all. Last year, Anatomy of a Fall was not sent by France for similar reasons and it went on to get nominated and also win for other categories so maybe thats what All We Imagine As Light should also aim for.

They just used the 'now cliched in tamil cinema' trope of comparing the characters to forest animals (lion, tiger, wolf, etc.). Tamil cinema (and I guess even Telugu!) loves massy build up using forest animals 😂 The trailer though, was EXTRAORDINARY!!! Watching it FDFS for sure! The film was initially supposed to be directed by Dhanush's brother (Selvaraghavan; who is also acting in this film, the guy at 4:26 on this reaction video) and he is a big director of Tamil cinema who moved to acting roles now (another one of those 'started as a prolific director and moved to acting'). Dhanush picked this one up for his own direction. The film has a lot of his brother's midas touch in terms of the lighting/cinematography/staging/etc. You should watch "Kadhal Konden" and "Pudhupettai" for Selva's works (Selva introduced Dhanush to Tamil films).
