Now why this win is iconic? Historically for sub continent teams (India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Bangladesh) touring SENA (South Africa, England, New Zealand and Australia) is a big challenge and rarely win Because subcontinent pitches suit spin bowling and SENA is fast bowling paradise. So, batters aren't used to those fast bowling conditions and these teams didn't have very good fast bowlers. This Indian teams also had 3 big cricketers retire after last Test championship cycle - 2 batters and 1 spinner. 2 other senior players have been dropped. Also our main fast bowler, Bumrah is dealing with long term injury, so he can play only 3 out of 5 series. Another important player, Pant got injured in 4th match We have a new captain, lot of new players, inexperienced fast bowlers except Siraj. Most pundits and fans expected 1 win at best for India. First match - we lose pretty badly Second match - we have our biggest test win ever, with 300 odd runs Third test - we lose a match we should have won, by some 20 runs Fourth test - a massive 4th innings batting by us to draw a match we should have lost 5th test - we won out of no where So, in conditions where we were expecting to lose 1-4, we drew the series 2-2

A test match is always played upto 5 days. Expected 90 overs a day, sometimes lesser because the bowling team couldn't finish all the overs within the alloted time. So, theoretically 450 overs per each test match if the match isn't over. Then its a draw A series can have 2 to 5 test matches. Which means 10 to 25 days of cricket. Big teams like India, England and Australia play 5 match series because there are more eyeballs, more coverage and more revenue Series with other nations is usually 2 or 3 matces matches Since 2021 we have a new Test championship model where each competing team plays 6 series. Every win gives 12 points and every draw is 4 points. After this series which was 2 wins England, 2 wins India and 1 draw, both teams have 28 points each. Minus 2 for England because of slow over rate in one match. It just means they couldn't consistently bowl 90 overs in a day, so they were penalized. So, England ends the series with 26 points and India 28 points The top 2 teams at the end of 2 year cycle (where all of them have played 6 series each) play a final. The winner gets the Test championship

MayaR

The match wasn't a draw, we won it, but they were 2-1 up and so the whole 5 match series is tied at 2-2

should react to extended highlights these short ones won't tell you the whole scenario.

This will be shared cuz this is inaugural Anderson -Tendulkar trophy with Pataudi Medal. In India the trophy which is player is called Anthony De Mello Trophy.

heroic of Woakes to try to bat with a dislocated shoulder too..

Imagine 3 retirements and 4 injuries and still winning with a rookie side abroad!

India won the day and the Test! the series was a draw.. each game went till 5 days! Eng won the first (big win), India won the second (huge win margin), Eng won a close 3rd, 4th was a draw (great Indian fightback and defense), 5th was an amazing Indian comeback win. series tied 2-2 after 5 games.

AJk21

amazing scenes! packed house.. India set to lose and then somehow conjured a win no one saw coming.. defending 35 with 4 wkts to take DOES NOT happen EVER in Tests! this is insane! amazing crowd energy too..

AJk21

the Prasidh bluff to Tongue was amazing.. moved fielders back so the batter thought he'd bowl a bouncer, and then rain in and bowled a laser-accurate yorker to smash the stumps! brilliant display of brains and high skill under immense pressure..

one of the most unbelievable endings ever! India with recent retirements of stalwarts Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma & Ravi Ashwin + injuries to seamers Bumrah and Shami, a broken foot to star wicketkeeper/batter Rishabh Pant, and injured allrounder Axar Patel, and with a new young captain in Shubman Gill - and they managed to level it 2-2 vs. England (giants at home) .. amazingly, ever since England/Bazball became renowned, they've thrasedh everyone (NZ, Pak, WI, etc) but have lost 2 series each away in Australia and India (the 2 elite cricket juggernauts) and only managed drawn home series vs both - i.e., Bazball has never beaten Aus or Ind! great to see elite performances this time by Gill (a record 750+ runs in a 5 Test series!), the new superman M. Siraj (superhuman effort - the only fast bowler across both teams to remain fit across all 5 5-day games - an amazing 25 days, 1100+ balls bowled and still clocked 90mph without any physical strains and zero fatigue), Jadeja (starred with bat and ball), young W. Sundar (a future star allrounder), Akash D, Jurel, openers KL & Jaiswal, Prasidh etc - all excellent! .. and brilliant showings (when fit) by the elite and unplayable Bumrah and a heroic R. Pant (batting with a broken foot!) .. Eng went from no-hopers chasing 370+ to smash 300/3 and it looked like India were finished but then Prasidh and especially Siraj produced a heroic comeback with 35 needed, 4 wickets left, and 1 full day left - to make 35 seem like 135! Eng strugled to get a run and India roared back for a record close finish/win !!! Insane!

AJk21

@Korbin, about drawing - the previous winner of the when these two met keeps the trophy. And that was India when England played 5 tests in India, which is why this draw is amazing!

Sibi Naayagam

To clarify rick…Test is always a 5 day match… no of matches in a series can 2,3,4 or 5.

Siddhant Agarwal

The last batsman with his arm in the sweater had a dislocated shoulder but came to bat just to give his team a chance!! Thank god he didn’t get to face a ball otherwise he could play only with only arm.

Sibi Naayagam

India won the match…drew the series 2-2
