In the novel, Kanbaru says that dunking felt like cheating, but later corrects herself and says it's more like a "last resort" or "trump card" that she rarely used in official games. She also says there probably weren't many other japanese highschool girls capable of dunking, so it always felt like a cheap move.
From here untill the end quite a few things were left out from the book, some even major for the understanding of Numachi's character, so at the end of the season I'll try adding some of that info. One minnor thing I could comment now that the anime never touches on directly is Rouka's hair color, as she dyes it light brown. Teenagers dying hair is against the rules of most schools in Japan (some of them even make foreigners dye their hair black to study there) so this is seen as a very rebelious act, especially in a rural town like theirs. Kanbaru even says the dyed-brown hair was more frightening to her than a devil, exactly because no teenager in their right mind would do it. This is like a way of telling the reader how Numachi feels like she has nothing else to lose; The only hint of this in the anime is during the opening, where we can see Rouka with her orginal black hair color during the middle school memories/delusions and with the light brown during the present-day Numachi scenes.
Numachi also takes the crown with the longest monologue in the entire series! I just checked it, and her story goes on for about 20% of the book, no one else gets even close!
