Upcoming Outfit System Details!

After a large number of requests, I’ve started work on an outfit system in game, with clothes purchasable at the mall. Each outfit will have an accompanying picture, slightly different stats and buffs in different situations. Stats will include:

Some outfits will also be rare and will unlock special scenes.

Overall it will be a relatively simple and streamlined system, each item will represent an entire outfit. There may be ways for these outfits to get damaged or ruined too… 😇

This will give you a lot more things to spend money on, and different outfits will trigger different comments and reactions from people. So overall they should add a lot of variety to things.

It’s going to be a lot of work (1-2 weeks of full on development I think), but maybe not as much as one would think. I’m glad you brought up the point of streamlining it. I have gone through several iterations of design for this, because I want it to be extremely player friendly, in the background and not “in your face”. I never want the system to cause major interruptions to the gameplay loop, but rather just to enrich and deepen them. And you are right, there are some TG games out there (which shall remain nameless), that I really believe went overboard with clothes, to the point where it is not as enjoyable as it could be. So I have studied the greatest offenders and will avoid those pitfalls. Shoes will be handled as part of the outfit yeah. The only separate pieces will be underwear and outerwear. I want the clothing system to achieve the following: 1. Allow the player to “present” themselves and their identity via their clothes. Like it will be a big cue to the game that the player is going for a slutty playthrough if they are choosing slutty outfits 2. Give the player a sense of progression and things to spend money on. A lot of outfits will be quite expensive, I’ll be basing their prices off of real life clothing prices… Beyond that, I don’t want this system to interfere. If the player doesn’t choose what outfit they’re wearing for a specific event, an appropriate outfit will just be automatically selected. You’ll also get the option to set general preferences about what types of clothes you want to wear. I’ll make a mini AI that will select your default outfit based on how you’re playing. In fact I think it will be kind of fun to see what outfits your character is automatically reaching for.

Sounds like you're setting yourself a lot of work, but I'm sure it'll be worth it. I assume that shoes will be handled as part of the outfit rather than having separate footwear and any kind of walking in heels mechanic? The game definitely needs more things to spend money on. Some games have a debt/rent mechanic to push the player, but at the moment there's not really any in game incentive to risk giving product demos or stripping. I hope the management of outfits will be streamlined for the player, e.g. automatically changing to the selected office/gym/beachwear/etc. as appropriate, rather than needing to open the inventory and manually change it each time. I've played some games where the wardrobe management gets a bit tedious in the end.

One further detail, each of the 10 playable characters will have about 50 unique outfits each! I think this will be more fun than making a big generic set.
