In ancient times, powerful families of mortals would often make pacts with Yokai, assuring one another protection and utilizing the Yokai’s gifts to bring prosperity upon their clans.
Though the practice is no longer commonplace, a few select families still boast partnerships with Kuda. These small, slender vulpines are often called Pipefoxes, as they’re known for sequestering themselves within such objects. Mortal families of old would tempt Kuda into their service with ornate ritual pipes, which the Kuda would both reside within and utilize to enhance their spiritual powers for their benefactor. Serving as familiars to these mortal ‘sorcerers’, the Kuda could easily be concealed in sleeves, from where they could strike at the sorcerers’ enemies unseen, weaving curses to bring all manner of misfortune upon their foes.
After the Fappening, the few Kuda that remain in service to mortals have found new crevices to crawl into, and find the use of their enchanted pipes quite intoxicating, allowing them to addle large groups of enemies to distract and dismay them while their companion sorcerer cleans up after them. That said, Kuda remain quite fragile, and if separated from their mortal companions are likely to tire out quite quickly under any amount of sustained offensive.
