Listen/Spot Checks for 5e

What if I told you that we could preserve the detail of listen/spot without the mechanically punishing aspects?

I agree that Investigation checks are underused. I try to keep them in the forefront. It's one of my favorite skills to riff the ability score on. I like calling for Charisma (Investigation) checks when carousing for information in a bar or city.
2020-07-27 15:01:52 +0000 UTCI have started using Perception for checks to notice something (like a monster using stealth or noticing a minute detail) and investigation for any searching (such as for traps or for hidden items). I found this has really worked well to not throw so much weight onto one skill.
