Interesting thoughts. The final artifact is not a sculpture, but that’s no fault of yours. I kept the description intentionally vague and ambiguous. Oh, and the Sword of Damocles reference was intentional, but it doesn’t quite represent what you think it does and is a pretty subtle thing that’s mostly just me having a laugh with indirect foreshadowing. It’s always fun seeing readers’ thoughts, so hopefully you’ll enjoy Sunday’s chapter.

This was an interesting chapter about Tom and getting into his mind. His conversation with Dumbledore that focused on the ideas of fear and ruling brought up a few questions. Besides being an absolutely insane and sadistic person, I wonder what the reason is for Tom’s obsession with fear. Even going as far as to murder all his former acquaintances from the orphanage under suspicious circumstances. I understand this world is not exactly like canon, but I feel as if this could somehow be traced back to Tom with real consequences for him. Will he just simply not face consequences and get away with it? Or does he just not care? About that idea of ruling the empire (I believe that’s what it’s called?), Tom talks to Dumbledore about it and is rather enamored with one day usurping and replacing him, although he doesn’t vocalize any of those thoughts. That idea of taking on the position of a ruler was then complimented by that mental image of an axe held up by a headsman bearing down upon Tom. I’m not sure if it was intentional, but the first thing it reminded me of was the anecdote of the Sword of Damocles. Was this the intent? If it was, and the story follows along with that anecdote, I’m curious as to how Tom might receive power from Dumbledore and why he might decide to give it back. This is however, in all likelihood, just conjecture. Also really curious about the collection of artifacts that Tom has collected. Based on how possessive he is of them and him going out to build his collection at the end, I’ll go out on a limb to say that they are horcruxes. Of the four of them though, which presumably represent the four houses and founders of Hogwarts, the final artifact representing Slytherin deviates from canon. Instead of a locket, it seems to be a rune-covered wooden snake sculpture, unless I just totally misread the description. I wonder where the locket is then or how he got the cup without getting the locket (which I think he both got through his job at Borgin and Burkes in canon).
