Perversion of Purity Chapter 90

We are, at last, at Durmstrang. This chapter covers Harry’s first night there.

With Durmstrang comes a question I would like if all of you considered:

Durmstrang’s official language is German. If Harry — or any other character — is speaking publicly at Durmstrang, it’s probably in German. The same can be said for French at Beauxbatons.

Usually, secondary languages that are understood by the viewpoint characters are indicated by italics, but that would be A LOT of italics in book 4 and I don’t know how many of you want to read so much of that text style.

So I will be doing a poll here on Friday. It will ask whether you want German, French, and any other language Harry understands to be italicized, or whether you just want me to set the precedent that most dialogue will be in secondary languages, and then not worry about it unless it’s plot essential in some way.

Think on that for the next couple of days. Chapter 90 is in the latter style, but I can edit that later if need be.
