Welcome to the Orange Land

Dear Heroes,

Welcome to the second half of the first month of the 24th year since the Millennium Bug destroyed all our computer systems!

It is my great, great pleasure to welcome you now to the Orange Land. Between this and the Blue Land, we have the entire action movie genre poster spectrum covered. The other colors are mere details. Chaff to play with.

I've taken the structure of the Blue Land and it worked wonderfully for the Orange.

Warning: some of the Orange Land themes are grim: death, authoritarianism, servitude, human biomodification, child farming. Don't try and be edgy and dump this on children or gentle readers. If you're gaming here, skate over the details or drop themes entirely as needed.

First, an authentic map, as approved by the Orange Land Council authority.

Next, the usual spread for travel, weather, (mis)fortune, and encounters. Essentially, what you need if your players are just "passing through."

Then, the shopping list, including accommodations.

Followed by four pages for the different factions and what they might want. The art is from the 17th of January 2024 ... not, uh, from 2017. I only realized the numbering was confusing after I'd digitized it. Oopes.

And then location and some discoveries (the "Orange Rind" and "Whistler's Watchtower")

I'm pretty proud of these 12 pages. They look good, and there's plenty for a very alien adventure backdrop.

I plan to return to the Orange Land to add a few more locations: Oranje (the city), the Unspoken Lost Settlements, the Sailing Islands at the very least.

Still, for now, the next region is up for a vote again!

Which region shall we visit?

My ploy is to visit each region, then dig down deeper into specific locations within each, building up the setting like a layer cake.

Also, News and Questions!

I'll also be making a poll on what to include in the kickstarter.

Yes, a kickstarter is coming later this year for Our Golden Age (all these teasers you've been patiently enjoying) and the Guide Book.

We're currently planning a big square map of the Circle Sea and probably a tourism focused referee screen for the setting (places to go, things to do, troubles to discover) and maybe some dice ... but before I go too deep into these ideas ...

What would you like to see in a kickstarter? What would make episodic play, traveling around the Circle Sea, really work for you? Location cards? Tokens? Figures? Card games? Soundtrack?

It's still early enough that ... well, if you've got a great idea for something you'd like me (us!) to make ... there's a good chance we might be able to pull it off.

I'll go through your ideas and set up a poll later to gauge interest.

!!!_._!!!

(yes, yes, we could put some ants in the kickstarter, too, sure ... )_) ...

~~~  ~~~
As always, thank you for your kind support, thank you for enjoying this strange world and traveling with me.
Wishing you health and happiness,
—Luka
I suspect the Purple Land will win ... :)
WizardThiefFighter
I may be too late but adding my voice for the Green land. Curiousity has killed all the cats...
Dameon Gaynor
I am 100% in favor of mixtapes and playlists! Also, lovely choice of musics ^_^
WizardThiefFighter
Oh man... your stuff always cranks up my mental jukebox on something like Deep Purple's Machine Head, early Wolfmother, Sabbath's Planet Caravan, The Holy Mackerel... maybe I should make a mix tape
Tom Solo
Yeah, there seems to be momentum building for going Deep Purple.
WizardThiefFighter
I strongly suspect the Purple Land will come next without my vote, but cats, coffee and strange magic get my thumbs up too.
Myles Corcoran
I’m excited for the purple land of cats and coffee- the life blood of my existence
James Aydelotte
Cats and coffee are the two essential C's with purple being the best color, I think there is a clear winner here.
Super excited about the KS later this year and loving the content so far. Despite purple being one of my favorite colors, I'm very curious about Green Land, so I will vote for that. As for this "What would you like to see in a kickstarter? What would make episodic play, traveling around the Circle Sea, really work for you? Location cards? Tokens? Figures? Card games? Soundtrack?" You already mentioned the GM Screen and map, so next for me would be: 1. Soundtrack most definitely. And I know you have suggested that UVG is inspired by psychedelic metal, but to me your works scream Jazz Fusion - The Comet is Coming, Weather Report, Return to Forever, Azymuth, T-Square, Casiopea, Yellowjackets, Spyro Gyra and many others. Dunno if you are familiar with The Dead Robotz's Electric Mangrove, but that soundtrack would fit right into the UVG universe imo. 2. Location Cards with a summary and perhaps some adventure seeds/rumors OR Cheat Sheets with rules summary that I can hand over to the players.
"a square map of the Circle Sea" suggests that it might be worth talking to a printer about making a circular map.
Michael Llaneza
Yeah, we'll cram in all the art we can!
WizardThiefFighter
That does need to get finished, right? :)
WizardThiefFighter
Purple for me, please!
Edward Wilson
My players are currently exploring the Blue Land and we will likely head to the Violet City after, so I vote Purple!
Purple! Cats are best option always
Lynds Jones
Seconding this!
Regarding the Kickstarter, while I’m sure that any accessories you’re inspired to add will bring joy and delight, let me humbly implore you, above all, art. More art, bigger art. Pictures and thousand words, you know, and your pictures in particular are worth ten thousand words.
Abysmal Horror
Yellow! Decapolis + a refreshed monochrome mapping game?
ShawnMcC
I like cats and coffee, so my vote is for Purple!
