Hello good heroes!
Goodness ... that was an August. Well, I've gone on at length about that, so this time back to something a little more classic. Finishing up the Our Golden Age book!
One thing I've struggled with a bit in the past is to figure out how exactly to break down the parts of the book that are setting and the parts that are adventure and the part that are mechanics.
I've decided to build it using three adventure frameworks—assemblies of random tables that build up a scenes and hooks—to introduce three parts of the book:
1) the travel mechanics
2) the estate mechanics
3) and finally, a potential campaign arc for the setting.
I'm quite pleased with the simple travel dice mechanic that gives an incentive for spending cash on better travel + the random events a referee can use to season the journey. Here they are for your delectation.
Usual caveat - this is still to be edited! If you're keen to submit typos, gremlins, and other bugs, there's a channel for that on the discord. If you just want to throw golden apples, we've got room for that too. Link: https://discord.gg/sEc6suMCmE
Ah. I was happy to be past the campaign and able to sit and just write again for a while! I know tables look dead easy, but it's surprisingly slow putting together several pages of event tables.
Now that I've got this idea out of my head, I can take a small holiday.
I'm going to be off social media and keyboards and emails and phone for the next couple of weeks ... maybe even visit the seaside for a day! Above all, I'm looking forward to just drawing, writing, and taking it easy for a bit.
Take care and see you soon, for time flies swiftly in the autumn of the year as days grow shorter and nights grow fewer.
