This drawing took a lot of time, I did linework, color and shading first, and then tried to construct background, though it appeared to be very challenging for several reasons. After many attempts I found something that worked, I deliberately placed a dark curtain behind Maylina, so she'd have more contrast - it would also help move the landscape to the side and make it less distracting. The whole picture looks sunny and warm, without being washed out, bland or noisy.
Windows and shelves are placed at an angle, to help with composition and focus. At the beginning I tried to draw the window parallel, but it looked awful and led to several other problems with composition and lighting..
It's one of the few drawings that I feel the colors are right. Possibly because it has good contrast,
but it is only my guess
