Since the outbreak, members of the School Life Club were trying to survive by staying in one place. No outside help, no real progress, only constant fear and loneliness, bad dreams and suffering. Miki and Kei are in the same situation, and you can see how it turned out for them. As you said, there's really nothing they can do. In an instant, their freedom and their future have been taken away. Movies usually portray the post-apocalyptic world like a game, with a group of strong people given the most resources to fight most of their lives. But in "reality" it's kinda similar to COVID quarantine. Forget about fresh food and toilet paper when you don't have access to the internet, anime, and games. Eat, sleep, observe the walking dead, repeat. Yuki is almost the only source of their activity. Think about it, her insanity is the only thing that keeps the group sane.
