Hello everyone!
I realize that I forgot to post the 7.3.5 update here last time, but this is a good place to post a debriefing of what's going on, what got released and where we're headed next.
Just because I forgot to do the post for 7.3.5, you can see it here if you wish.
The release of 7.3.6 fulfills my promise from a while ago of adding scrap and upgrade items on treasure chests and custom bosses, something that was a very obvious addition but not necessarily easy to slot into the existing system in a clean way.
Fortunately, I took the time to do it correctly, and the result is a very powerful and flexible system that allows you to randomize or inherit the level and amount of these items you want to drop, as well as whether it can bypass player level restrictions and the chance to drop.
For those for whom this goes way over their head, you will be happy to hear that we will be integrating this feature into upcoming dungeons.
For starters, chapter 3 of The Oasis adventure is well under way, and has frequently been showcased during the streams. This new loot system was initially developed for chapter 3 of The Oasis, so you can be sure that it will be featured there.
Additionally, The Oasis is also adding 3 new areas, each individually almost the size of a full minidungeon. The level range will remain the same, and treasure chests will be added for chapter 3.
Overall, this will make the already very large Oasis map about 30-50% larger, so you can look forward to that.
Speaking of dungeons, The Ruins Lair was released today, and has a sweet trailer accompanying it. I am very happy with how the theming for the fight worked out, and I think you can see that in action on the trailer here.
As a matter of fact, I liked it so much that I temporarily made it the trailer for EliteMobs. One of these days I will actually have to make a real trailer for EliteMobs... hopefully I'll find some time to do it soon.
For now, what's keeping me busy is the release of The Oasis chapter 3 but also the Vampire Manor, another map I've showcased on twitch streams and on the 7.3.5 video.
That map is actually very special. Not only will it have a lot of new powers for EliteMobs, but it will be the first map to feature the Transitive Blocks system. To make a very complex mechanic simple, Transitive Blocks allow you to place blocks down when bosses enter and leave combat. At its most basic, you can use it to create doors, obstacles, platforms or general modifications to combat areas.
More advanced uses include setting up different block states per boss phase to drastically change a map as the fight progresses, or in the case of the Vampire Manor, 69OzCanOfBepis had the brilliant idea of making gargoyles that come to life if you kill a vampire - making the stone statue come alive!
We are also planning to create a Lair that builds itself as you fight a boss with ~10 phases, making the boss climb 10 floors in a tower as you fight it. When the fight starts, there will just be flat land, but by the time you finish fighting the boss you'll be fighting on the roof of a tall tower! That should be really fun to set up, though a lot of work will be required to get it in place.
You can expect The Oasis Chapter 3 to come out some time next week, hopefully. We are also hoping to release the Vampire Manor shortly thereafter, and then some patreon/itch.io events that I have cool concepts for but might be a bit hard to pull off.
If everything goes right, that means that this month will see the new chapter of an Adventure, a new Lair, a new Minidungeon and a new Event pack!
Thank you all for your support, these insane plans and release schedules are only made possible by your contributions!
Public EliteMobs builds will continue releasing ~1-2 weeks, depending on how many bug fixes are required and how complex the features I am adding are.
Happy adventuring,
- MagmaGuy
