EliteMobs 7.4.0 theme announcement & more!
Added 2022-04-06 22:30:03 +0000 UTCHello everyone,
We are now nearly done with EliteMobs 7.3.14 – the Arenas update! The developer build already has the default arena and the basic arena mechanics, and they are some of the most fun I’ve had in playtesting EliteMobs.
I do think people will agree that this might be the best co-op / fixed challenge in EliteMobs, and certainly the best one for people looking to flex their abilities.
As always, more features will be added to the Arenas as we move forward, but now that they fundamentally work it’s time to move on to the next big thing.
The results are in for the 7.4.0 vote, and the winning submission is the Creator update!
The Creator update is all about making the creation process easier and more scalable. This update isn’t so much about adding features to EliteMobs as it is creating tools to make creating EliteMobs content easier!
To this end, the webapp will be getting a complete overhaul. I am still figuring out the best way of approaching this challenge, so I don’t want to commit to anything too specific, but the main thing that this update will do is provide you with extremely powerful templates for everything in EliteMobs.
Explaining exactly what I mean by this would take quite a long time, but the end result is that you should be able to select what kind of boss / item you want to create and the app will automatically fill out almost everything you need, leaving you with just picking specific powers and things like names instead of worrying about health/damage multipliers, drop systems and so on. The objective is to create a system so intuitive that even someone who has never used EliteMobs and who has never touched a configuration file should easily be able to create highly advanced files for just about anything.
Furthermore, this update will also introduce YouTube guides on how to create EliteMobs content. Though written guides already cover most everything, I am aware quite a lot of people prefer YouTube videos, so that will also be made available.
The benchmark of success for this update is to be able to create a distribution-ready dungeon in less than 5 minutes, build aside. This dungeon should have a Custom Boss, a set of Custom Items and a Treasure Chest. It should also have Transitive Blocks and ideally it should also have some reinforcement bosses to show those off.
I think this is a very ambitious idea, and it is currently entirely impossible to do, even for me. However, I also believe it is possible and that it will happen.
I believe that once these tools are published admins and content creators will gain a completely renewed interest in creating and sharing their own original content which should be a lot of fun.
About Primis chapter 3:
Chapter 2 of Primis came out with a uniformly positive reception, which was nice to see after the absolute marathon and emotional rollercoaster getting chapter 2 out there was.
Fortunately, chapter 3 is going to be far more relaxed. The focus of chapter 3 will be tightening up existing content and fleshing out the Gladius area with all the planned quests and treasure chests. We will also be opening up Pontis Mille, the hub city right after the Gladius fortress, but the quests for that zone will not be done for chapter 3 as they require zones that are still currently under construction. This will still result in just about doubling the questing content.
Additionally, we are aiming to completely remake the first village with a completely new look, as it new feels far too basic and out of place compared to everything else. We have an amazing style in mind, and I think you will all love it. It will also have new NPCs and a new quest line in it.
I can also confirm that chapter 4 will have an arena inside of Primis, which is hilarious because that basically means the adventure is so large it already contains several Lairs and Minidungeons and will now also have a whole arena inside of it.
Other stuff:
I have a bunch of miscellaneous projects that I hope to start releasing very soon, including a video the Fiverr adventures where I managed to get scammed and all the builds that I got from there (some will be made into Lairs / Minidungeons), custom models I’ve been sitting on for months for no good reason, events, and other things (like the Primis trailer! That’s a big one).
On a personal note, I went through a pretty stressful time the last few weeks as I had to try to amicably resolve a lawsuit against our apartment building (kicked the old management out, I am now the new management), had some extremely important contracts that very nearly fell through at work but we believe we saved at the last minute and I am now wrapping up the process of fully incorporating EliteMobs and trying to start a game studio, among other things.
Those following me closely on Discord may have noticed that while the releases and fixes are coming out, they are usually delayed by a day or two from when I thought I was going to be able to do them. I hope you now have a better idea of why that is. While I am not exactly done with any of the things listed before, the worst part has passed, and I am starting to be able to focus on EliteMobs and will hopefully not feel so exhausted all the time.
Alright this is already so long that I am starting to suspect no one is going to read it all. If you read it to the end, leave a heart on this comment and go eat a cookie, you deserve it.
The next post will be the 7.3.14 release. As a small note, I am changing the way versioning works, these kinds of major versions are going to be 7.X.0 releases instead of 7.3.X releases. This is how it should’ve been all along, I just got really sidetracked during 7.3.
Happy adventuring,
