The Apollo One Disaster
Added 2022-08-02 10:15:59 +0000 UTCThere are two pictures that I wanted to share with you that I didn't get a chance to include in the video. Both show a bit of a different side to being part of the space race in the 1960s.
This first one shows the Apollo One astronauts relaxing in a pool after having completed some water egress training...
And this one shows them messing about and laughing before they were due to take some serious crew photos for the press...
These pictures may seem at odds with our idea that the space race was deadly serious... but they highlight the fact that the astronauts (and everyone else involved) were only human. Under immense stress, they also needed a chance to relax and have fun every so often, if only for some relief from the pressure and tension they were dealing with every day.
