The Story of the USS Indianapolis
Added 2022-01-18 11:15:00 +0000 UTCEver since I learned about this disaster it's a story that I've been wanting to tell. What the survivors went through is really quite extraordinary... and it's a part of World War II that I thing everyone should know about.
One thing that I wanted to include more detail on was the role of Lieutenant Commander Robert Adrian Marks. He and his crew were the very first rescuers to reach the men in the water, and they had to take some pretty significant risks in order to do so.
This source provides a little more background, and detail on the conditions they faced. It's worth reading just to get some appreciation of how difficult and dangerous a rescue operation of this scale can be... particularly in a time of war!

What an excellent story. I remember being terrified by Jaws when I was a lot more than six years old. But I have to say... a little humour like this would definitely have helped!

2022-02-25 10:01:11 +0000 UTCThis video is a tribute to all who served except those officers who neglected their duty. I first heard about this tragedy when watching Jaws in 1975. Robert Shaw brought their story to millions who had never heard it before. I was thrilled to hear that Captain McCoy was cleared of all charges almost 30 years later. My father took his 10. 9, and almost 6 years old daughters to see Jaws. During the first attack, my little sister leaned over to my father and said, “Daddy, don’t forget to buy the fish food.” My father was laughing through the entire scene. After the movie, two of my father’s patients asked why he was laughing. They sent the story in to the local newspaper gossip column and it got published. That is how my mother found out my father had taken us to the movie. He is lucky that she didn’t send him to swim with the shark. 🦈
