In case I haven't said so before, the Library of Congress in the US is a fantastic resource. As well as an archive of hundreds of thousands of historical images (many of which are free to use) it also compiles excellent resources like this one, which offer suggested sources relating to a given event or person.
In this case it includes almost a dozen newspaper articles from the year following the collapse. Being able to read articles that were written at the time adds so much depth and nuance to a story like this.
And, while we're at it, I find it fascinating to read old newspapers. The way they approach stories and the turns of phrase they use are both very different and oddly similar to what you find in reporting today. I'd absolutely recommend giving these ones a read!
