Both well made, but not much more than a cheeky pastiche. Though MAXXXINE has its moments. I probably preferred it overall to X. But not by much. Some fun side characters.

Just saw it in a sold out theater on 35mm, so I had a lot of fun with it. But, I have it coming in last of the 3, due to some poor choices in the 3rd act imo.

2024-07-02 09:12:39 +0000 UTCI enjoyed X and Pearl but personally never understood all the crazy hype for this series. I like the campiness and defined aesthetic but Ti West is basically leaching off dozens of other (better) horror films as well as Mia Goth’s great performances without adding anything new to the mix. I guess I need to see MaXXXine for myself to judge but that’s how I feel.
