If anything I think you were too nice to this episode. There are even more problems beyond what you brought up in this review. Chief is a total moron throughout the second half. Instead of trying to get some distance after the sucker punch he engages Slayer hand to hand again despite knowing how outclassed he is after their first skirmish. When he finally does get an opening he still stays at close range and goes for a point blank pistol shot even though he literally shot Slayer in the face with a pistol earlier and it did nothing. And after the BFG/Spartan Laser clash he pulls out two SMGs, which are just full auto pistols. I get that it was for the sake of the Halo 2 pose but it's still stupid and so is the pose since he gets killed immediately afterwards. I also went into this as a fan of both characters. And while I personally didn't want the remake I did want to love the episode. But even after seeing you point out the few cool things Chief does get in the fight that I didn't notice on my first watch this is still not only my new least favorite episode of all time but also, in my opinion, worse than the original Chief vs Doomguy. At least that episode has the Season 1 excuse and doesn't feel like Chief ft Doomguy.
