Rather than love he experiences a lot of emotions for the first time. The complexity doubles because he does not only discovers them internally from a first person perspective but also the other side of the coin from Komugi. Komugi is his emotional discovery mirror. While Meruem learns from watching her like an infant from his parents he also learns the urge to protect like a parent. - "Such a fragile creature" Arrogance - being humble Strong - weak Immaculate - unsightly ...and so on And we can go even more meta with their relationship when we think about a 'simplebutnotsimple' concept: As just a creature, Komugi is literally an ant to him like ants are to us humans. And still he can not beat her in this trivial game. And still he learns more and more about what it is to be human. Sry for my bad english...uhm I guess I went on and started yapping again hehe xD

Meruem is only a few weeks old and yet already having existential crisis 😩 You've became an adult too fast, my guy lol. Kidding aside, I am such a simpleton (and a really cheesy person) because I've already connecting Meruem's actions towards Komugi as "love".. or at least they both have such strong emotional connection. 🥹 I'm also loving all these yaps about Meruem's character! I get you, he is such a complex character and a nice topic to review! I also have a lot of opinions but I'm saving it at the end of this arc. What I can say though is that out of all the shonen I've watched, I have never seen such powerful villain get a character development like this. Togashi is such a genius. I love how he made Meruem's character development so nuanced and deep. I also love how he humanizes Meruem's character by letting him feel all these emotions towards Komugi. (Although I know tons of shonen dudes hate this part as they find it cheesy lmao.) Yo, what a great three episode! It was such a pleasant surprise to see this drop! Thank you, Lok! Looking forward to the next one!
