Extended Writing Update

Omg I forgot to post this with all the excitement of getting the demo out yesterday 😭 My apologies! That's what I get for posting on a Sunday haha.

Anyhow, writing went well this past week! I spend a ton of time filling in choice options and tweaking, re-tweaking, deleting and then rewriting the scenes in the demo where MC taps into their magic. That process in particular was an interesting experience for me, actually. I kept trying to use the type of language I typically use to describe the wilds. But what I ended up doing was scrapping that because it just felt too vague for what I was trying to communicate. I needed something a little more grounded in human experience which I think makes sense because the death magic the MC is using is very clearly not fae magic (we went to the deepest reaches of Annan'vesan in the first game to figure that out lol). I think the descriptions still turned out more ethereal than narration around, say, walking through the streets of Leas but it's not so out-there that I'm worried it won't work with what I'm trying to do.

Setting foundations is funny like that. You try so hard to make sure you're being clear without giving away the things you plan to reveal later, and no matter what you have to accept that you'll succeed and fail at the same time. Every reader has a different experience, right? I feel alright about that though, half because I know I'm giving it my best and half because I've got different elements for different players to enjoy (I hope, I pray 😂).
