Extended Writing Update
Added 2025-05-12 02:21:50 +0000 UTCBurning the midnight oil this week lol ๐ I've been bouncing back and forth between revising chapter one (again, to no one's surprise) and adding new chapter content. The first three chapters of a story tend to be the most difficult for me to nail down, and this is no exception. To be honest I think that's probably common among writers. It's such a tricky thing to get the opening the way you want it, but I am grateful for what I've started dubbing "sequel privilege," aka basically the fact that it's okay to not open a sequel on a super action-y scene because people are mostly going to want to know what happened in the timeskip first. I admit though, I have been making some cuts to get us to the action part faster. I just hate dragging things out, to the point where I'll cut stuff I really like if I feel like it's unnecessary.
To that end, some of the talking with people in the neighborhood is gone now, in favor of the Leon/Tiane scene on MC's patrol. It was too much all together like that, but I saved the dialogue in another folder and will bring it in somewhere else if it fits. It killed me to remove it but fortunately that was offset by the satisfaction I felt looking through it again and realizing how much better the pacing got.
I'm going to be working on the monthly extra tomorrow, after which I'll be back at it with regular writing, along with some playtesting. The latter is kind of a combo "check for import bugs" and "see how this plays and edit as needed." I don't always have the time/energy to do that, so when I do, it's a treat. I try to be really thorough with it, and kind of brutally honest with myself on the topic of whether this is a game I'd like to play. If the answer is yes, I'm good. If not, I start pulling up weeds ๐คช

"We went to the wilds and sought out a powerful fae last time," Keo says. "Perhaps we should try that again. The fae will know things about what's happening that this group of humans does not."
