Contours of the World Commune w/ Felix from Friends of the Classless Society

Jamie and Sam are joined by Felix from the Berlin-based discussion and publication group Friends of the Classless Society to discuss their piece “Contours of the World Commune, ” which can be found in Endnotes #5. This text offers an exciting glimpse of what this world commune might look like, so we can keep our eyes on the prize as we build revolutionary power in the here and now. What is the relevance of Marx’s transitional “first stage” of communism in a late-capitalist economic landscape? Should we abolish the suburbs? Are rural land projects an escapist delusion or is there something there, after all? All this and more in this week's audio-only episode.

Insurrection and Production! It's a banger

Everybody Loves Communism

Hiiii. What was the title of that Angry Workers piece that was discussed?

Its getting more and more frustrating to hear Sam stumble through these conversations due to a seeming lack of Marxist understanding. Alot of time gets wasted as the guest has to address their confusions on technology, "destructive" labor, riots, suburbia etc. I really wish they took a more serious mentality when it comes to grasping Marxism. Having a guest on seems to be the right choice towards that goal. Also it very-much warms my heart to hear the nodding along for Trotsky's ideas; Permanent revolution, transitional demands, dismissal of Socialism in One Country, and the bureaucratic degeneration of the USSR under Stalin....even if the connection to them hasn't been established yet. All a step in the right direction. Continue pour through the theory and the rest will follow.

Interesting guest. I live in a suburb of new orleans. We actually have a pretty vibrant social community. My children are deeply involved in the theater community. Also I love all of the trees around us. I understand the transportation issue but at the same time I don't feel like jamming everybody into one place is the best solution. Perhaps there's a way to integrate more public transit into the areas where we already live. When I lived in the DC area we had the subway connecting most places close to the city and then buses that branched out from there.
