I wanted to run a quick poll to test the waters about what YOU WANT with the movie delivery. This is only to get a vibe so please feel free to vote freely. I will not be taking any immediate action but I will STRONGLY CONSIDER the results and use them to help guide future movie delivery.
NOTES:

Something to consider is there are a few things a one month production cycle will likely NEVER be able to achieve. This could be a large scale growth scene. A complicated transformation, etc. A longer production cycle might open us up to some awesome new possibilities we just can't get now. Imagine the difference between a 5 minute quick sketch and a one month painting and you get the rough idea.
This is only to test the waters and see what you are thinking and what you might like!
For ideas like multi month movies there will still be a stream of updates and previews every month! That would not change!
Multi month would likely be longer than what we have now and I would send some sort of summary on progress as we head to the goal.
I will continue to produce the same amount of animation work a month (or more if I can manage). In other words - a multi month movie means more work is put into the final movie. Sounds obvious but I think it's worth stating.
If you have an idea or question - please comment!

Totally agree and see what you are leaning into. I have thought about some sort of mega-package for things like comics and movies. I do currently offer something like that on https://readyart.itch.io/ This is where I do bundle groups of movies and some comics packages. It's for exactly the reason you mention - to give people a complete look at chunks of my work. Great idea and thanks! It helps to hear someone else speak it aloud. -Ready

2024-09-21 10:12:59 +0000 UTCAlso there is a secondary market as well. If you start making longer more self contained content then you could sell it as one off projects after hitting Patreon. As for much as Patreon is great there is a portion(I would assume) that just want one off things. Something they can pay for once and have. So that is another revenue stream that might off set what you lose in monthly subscribers. Even taking some of your extensive back catalog of animation and in the off time combining and editing it. Maybe clean up something here, cut something out there, condensing plot lines. Then republishing the content in more manageable and watchable chunks. Making like 20min or half hour episodes, and bundling that into an Arc much like what TV & Anime does. Which you could publish in the off time between new pieces and also sell off of Patreon to new people or people who don't like subscribing. All of your content is great, and there is a lot of lore and background to it. The years you have been doing this there is a tremendous backlog of story behind all of the process scenes. That would also make good content to bundle and sell. Even without editing just combining mixed media(comic, story, animation) all into one package and making story arcs out of them. I don't know just thinking out loud, but I don't see many artists/creators do this.

2024-09-21 08:08:15 +0000 UTCI have thought about this one a lot. A couple things off the top of my head. One, there will be regular animation updates regardless. People will get full previews and WIP clips all the way to release. These would happen regularly every month. Two, I wonder if making a much higher quality movie will bring in a larger number of friends and fans to balance out any flux in membership. I know some people might have to bow out and that is totally understandable. I also think in terms of a movie we are starting to hit the limits of a one month deadline. There is only so much I can do in a month and if we want to see something more epic I would likely need more time than a one month deadline allows. In the end though I always aim to bring you my best effort AND keep you informed while I work! -Ready

2024-09-20 21:19:46 +0000 UTCYes and to be clear, there will be REGULAR updates during every month. It’s not like people will get nothing at all. I would still be releasing full previews and WIP work as I go. The plan would be to keep people informed.

2024-09-20 21:12:44 +0000 UTCThere’s a bit to unpack there but let’s cover the main points. One, everyone here gets my maximum effort each month. Whether movies took one month or more I would still be working on art and animation you get as soon as I can deliver it. Two, having multiple movie projects happening each month in order to deliver a finished movie each month is, in my humble opinion, not really workable. If I was doing multiple movies each month why wouldn’t I just throw all that effort into ONE movie and deliver a MEGA movie each month. What’s happening right now is I have “X” amount of time to make a movie. I am thinking about putting 2 or 3 X into a new movie. Splitting up my time into ½ X for one project is going to add a lot of overhead (tracking, managing, etc) and probably not going to give the results one might hope. One thing to remember is no matter what you will ALWAYS get frequent updates from me with animations and full previews so it’s not like there will be radio silence. Regarding getting your month’s worth. You’re a long time friend and fan and you know I don’t miss deadlines and how regularly I communicate. You can speak better than most about ‘getting your money’s worth’. If you are concerned about hearing from me during the month or seeing any art, you know how I operate already and I am very regular with my updates and art drops. I’d like to think I have a pretty solid track record of giving people their money’s worth or more when possible but you be the judge. haha

2024-09-20 21:07:41 +0000 UTCI am all for slower transformations. If it takes a few months then so be it. If you really focused on an idea and you only did four movies a year that would be great. Take the time to evolve your craft/story telling. Animation takes time and a lot of effort so taking more time to produce higher quality will pay off in the long run. Though on the flip side if you do switch it up you will have to be prepared for people to only sub to you when a movie is about to come out. So if that is going to affect your life too much by losing the income then it is something to think about as well.

2024-09-20 20:01:40 +0000 UTCI'm personally MORE than Happy to wait an extra month or two if it means longer movies and/or slower transformations. These things take time and effort, and that is something I respect. People want reward for their support every month, its understandable. But maybe its worth waiting if the movie is Longer/has MORE Content to enjoy overall?

2024-09-20 18:29:04 +0000 UTCIf movies were to take multiple months to complete, would you have multiple projects going on so we'd still get one movie a month? I prefer to get my money's worth.

2024-09-20 11:06:42 +0000 UTCExactly!! To be clear this would be something really long that wouldn't be doable in the span of one month.

2024-09-20 10:23:51 +0000 UTCI like the idea of a really elaborate slow transformation 👀😋
