Continuing the imp-related chaos across the city, Gwae is the next in line, following Kathalia: https://www.deviantart.com/kathalia/art/Impish-Intentions-Kathalia-869726695. This series is inspired by a wonderful fanart series that the ever-talented www.deviantart.com/ivanksmw drew of the Kroashent cast, transforming them from heroes into mischievous imp-like gargoul: www.deviantart.com/ivanksmw/ar… . I've been wanting to try my hand at a similar sequence and finally had a chance last month. These were a lot of fun to work on, so I hope you enjoy them!

Gwae held the small silver stick over the candle burning on her desk, watching with annoyance as ink began to dribble out, a little faster than she had planned. The inksticks rarely worked with the cool touch of her skin to the metal. With an annoyed flick, she tossed the cylinder across the desk, where it clattered and rolled. The frustration with the tool was not unexpected and she had been prepared for the likelihood her hands would again be too cool to melt the ink. She pulled out a small vial on a brass stand from a drawer and set it on the desk, before leaning over to pull out a small ashwood box from underneath her desk. She opened it, revealing the swanfeather quill sitting on the cushion within. She carefully pulled it out and replaced the box and moved to dip the pen in the inkwell.
The vial was missing. Gwae reasoned it had slid, or she had merely forgotten to get it out. She put down the quill and opened the drawer. The vial sat within. She pulled it out and put it down, moving to pick up the quill. It had vanished. Gwae blinked. She had just put it down and it wasn't on the floor. She pulled out the box. Resting on the top of the cushion was the quill. She moved to dip into the vial, which was once again missing. Gwae scowled. Quill in her hand, she pulled open the drawer with an annoyed and forceful yank. The vial sat within. She pulled it out and placed it down on the desk, dipping the quill into the ink... the paper was now missing.
She spotted it peeking out over the highest shelf. Annoyed, she dragged over a stool and climbed up to get the paper. She unfurled it and sat back down. The quill and pot were still there. She dipped the pen in once more and began to write. Rather than simple scratches and drips of blu-ish black, the ink spread out in a spiral of colours like vines, flowers of red, blue and pink appearing to grow out from the nib. Gwae looked on as the drawings spread out over the page. In a panic, she pulled the pen back. It was a very important document, and not one that she could... she looked at the paper.
From the desk of her honorable stick-in-the-mud, Guildmistress Gwaeron Sulime Dethermir of the most distinguished guild of pencil-pushers... the top of the paper read. Gwae slammed her hands down on the table, drawing forth a surge of her raw arkane power and scattering it around her, shaking the windows and the piles of papers stacked around the room. A small winged figure appeared in a dazzling fizzle of glamour, rolling around the air laughing. Gwae grabbed the creature by its tail and pulled it though the void.
"Alright ye wee gurrier, ye've had yer fun, but..." she stopped, squinting at the little gargoul who floated before her with a wide grin. The creature was small and human-shaped, with a pair of batlike wings stretching out behind her, and a pair of horns poking out through her fiery read hair. Gwae recognized her instantly, despite the drastic changes.
"Kathalia?!" She sputtered "What are ye... How are... Why are ye in the nip?!" She said, blushing as she noticed for the first time Kathalia's complete lack of clothing. Kathalia slipped her spear-tipped tail out from Gwae's faltering grasp and held out her hand. "You owe me a sous."
"..." Gwae stared at the open palm "What are ye on about?"
"A sous. Its a coin. You have a lot of them."
"I bloody well know what a sous is. Why?"
"Technically two sous. I bet myself. One that my clothing would be the first thing you noticed, the other that I could sidetrack you by asking for a sous."
"I dinna have ta pay ye for a bet ye made with yersel..." Gwae stopped, looking at Kathalia again, mouth hanging open mid-speech. "Why..."
"Oh, this?" Kathalia twirled in the air, giving Gwae a full rotation of her green-skinned body. "Do ye like it Midons? I came to give you a special showing, my little icicle", She floated behind Gwae and whispered directly into her ear in a smooth, low voice.
Gwae turned bright red, prompting a laugh from Kathalia, who rolled back in the air. "Too easy!"
"Enough of this. Yer a gargoul and ye weren't a gargoul at Terce when I saw ye last."
"Well, my dear Dame Dethemir, that little nightmare creature left an unsecured Wyldwstorm on her side table in this death-trap of a tower. It cracked and here I am..." Kathalia said in a mockingly formal tone, as she did while reciting one of Marie's more dramatic poems as she went into the details.
"Ye touched somethin' ye shouldn't 'ave. I told ye ta stop actin' the maggot when..." Gwae fumed when she saw the imp moving her mouth in a mocking silent mimicry of Gwae's words. "Are ye done?"
"Yes. I didn't actually touch it. The tower shook and it broke on its own."
"A likely story... stop that." she caught the mimicry once more, this time with an accompanying hand gesture. "All right, you're intolerable like this, even more than usual. Let's go to the tower and take a look."
"No need!" Kathalia exclaimed happily "I saved us the trouble! I sealed it up and brought it here!"
"YE what!? Are ye thick or bollixed?! If its as you say, the last place it should be is the the Bourse!" Gwae began to panic.
"Relax, I sealed it up."
Gwae looked at her with a suspicious glance. "Alright. I suppose if its sealed and warded, I can take a look. Where is it?"
"In that bag", Kathalia gestured with a clawed hand at a small leather sack against the wall. Gwae approached it and unclipped the strap. Coloured clouds of smoke poured out of the back around Gwae, who promptly refastened the bag.
"You said it was sealed!" she bellowed with annoyance.
"It was. In the bag. Very tight strap."
"I mean magically sealed with the Arkane!!"
"You know I don't touch the stuff." Kathalia said, floating on her back, examining her claws with disinterest.
"Ye thought a wee bit of leather would seal this in?!" Gwae could feel the horns pushing upwards on her head. It wasn't an unpleasant feeling, but Gwae didn't want to treat it like a welcome one. She pushed the bag away as her already pale skin turned white. Her clothing was already starting to billow out as she shrunk.
"Your looking a little wee yourself? Kathalia commented, suddenly interested again as Gwae struggled like a child in a grown adult's clothing. The only thing keeping any of it up was her wings, hooking the interior of her tentlike clothing. Gwae glared as she unburied herself from her silken pile, her tail twitching as it grew behind her. She pulled of the rest of the cloth, examining her small clawlike hands with disapproval. "Now look at what ye did." she fumed. She also noticed in the nervous, surreptitious glance from Kathalia that the other gargoul had looked at what she had done, but was nervously pretending otherwise. A wicked smile cross Gwae's face.
"Or could it be... that this yer plan all along." she said, adding a smoothness to her voice, a sudden change from the earlier squeals of protest. She unceremoniously dropped the last bit of cloth she held and strode forward with an intentional sway.
"No!" Kathalia protested "I didn't actually know that it would do that. Well, I thought it might, but I." Gwae was right next to her now, her eyes glinting with mischief.
"Oh, I believe ye, Midons." Gwae cooed "Like how I believe ye showed up in the nip for a joke." she pressed a clawed finger under Kathalia's chin, lifting it up slightly. A dark green blush spread over her face. "Well, let me just say that these circumstances are giving me some... ideas of me own." she leaned in with a barely audible whisper, her tone heavy and slow as she nipped at Kathalia's ear. The green blush grew even darker as panic set in.
Gwae stood, dangerously close for a moment, before whispering with a laugh, "Too easy."
To be continued....
