I never before thought about Matilda being a very serious character; all I really saw was the brain that she is, and I find that the most intelligent people are very analytical, thinking about what they observe and building upon those thoughts, and tend not to be very easily delighted or impressed.

2025-06-13 17:01:03 +0000 UTCMaybe Matilda was unspecialized as a young girl character so that she could be an everygirl, kind of like Barbie. I guess I didn't think much about it because I saw myself.

2025-06-13 16:45:59 +0000 UTCMatilda lost her powers at the end of the book because she got moved up to doing what would be roughly the equivalent of a high school senior's work, and the challenge meant a lot of extra work for her brain.
