Good summary of the utterly bizarre nature of German politics anno 2024. I’ve got two things to add. As to the question of how Transatlanticism manifests itself in German politics and why Le Pen threw out the AfD out of the ID group: There is a strong Eurasian wing and a more transatlanticist wing within the AfD. Krah, together with his pals from the Schnellroda circle of far-Right intellectuals belongs clearly to the former, seeking an alliance with Russia and trying to free Germany from its role as an vassal state to the US. That is why no German and no French politicians (except for the politically irrelevant Hans-Georg Maaßen from Germany) were present at the CPAC in Hungary, where Orbán gathered those conservative forces that he wanted to unite within a trans-Atlanticist alliance within the European Parliament. Arguably, Le Pen‘s RN had to distance itself from the AfD with its powerful duginist wing in order to gain access to the big boys’ club. In regard to the matter of Nordstream 2: It is maybe not unimportant to keep in mind the mental state of the German pundit class, particularly their fact checkers. When the most popular news show Tagesschau let the Hersh-story get fact-checked, a tragic translation mistake occurred. »Plant shaped c4 charges« was falsely translated as »c4 charges shaped like a plant«. The fact checker, thus, quickly came to the conclusion that the Hersh story was misinformation as it was impossible to install fake plants containing 300kg of C4 unremarked by all in the Baltic Sea (although no expert on botany was consulted on the matter).
