Salvete Patreons!
A few weeks ago we showed you a Late Roman belt that was still in progress. After many hours, it is finally ready and just in time for our portrayal of a Late Roman legionary in the upcoming filming event.
As an amateur leatherworker I am very proud of the result. And fellow reenactors also responded positively to the leather work. I hope there are many more projects like this to follow. There are so many beautiful Roman belts, bags and other leather works that I would like to make. Of course we will take you along in these fun projects and show you everything!
In the third image, I've added a schematic showing a collection of archaeological finds from late Roman belts.
- The hip belt concerns: No. 17 Type IIA
- The sword belt concerns: No. 8 Type IA, (most likely the mounting plate has been lost here).
What kind of Roman leather object would you like me to make?
PS: Please don't say a Roman leather horse saddle! Because that is probably a bit too much for my basic skills (and we lack a horse anyway) ;p
