Rome's unexpected Emperor Claudius

Last week we had a film day where we shot images for a future video with Emperor Claudius as subject.

We asked our good friend Bobby, who is also a Roman reenactor and hobbyist of Latin calligraphy, to play as the younger and adult Claudius.

The Praetorian Guard is woven into the unpredictable life of Claudius. We could not resist portraying a bodyguard of the Praetorian guard.

We took our inspiration from the Praetorian Guard from the Arch of Claudius, which is on display in the Louvre Museum.

We used the helmets and armor that we had available. And we were very happy with this portrayal.

What do you think of the portrayal of our Praetorian soldier?

The shoes, (calceī), look so narrow! Surely the soldier would have worn socks, (ūdōn)?.... Is my nomenclature correct?

Haha I completely understand your comment. It's a historical 1st century military shoe. but from a distance it's just like modern Timberland boots

Might be a dumb question but are the shoes part of the outfit? Idk much about Roman shoes (aside from your Caliga video) but they look advanced!
