The Problem with KPOP Reactors
Added 2025-10-31 17:16:41 +0000 UTCNOT A DRAMA VIDEO. Just me talking about some misconceptions of reactors and my personal problems with reactors (including myself)

I don't have any numbers on this, but it's my personal feeling, that most people watch reactors to validate their own feelings about a group or a song. Either they love it or they don't think it's that good, and they want to be validated. Personally, I don't watch people react to songs or groups that I don't regularly listen to or engage with. I watch the groups I like. Of course, I too hope that the reactor likes what I like. But if they don't, I simply don't leave a comment, and don't give the video a like, and I move on. Other people can't resist the urge to write a negative comment or try to engage with the content creator. Not knowing that good or bad, any comment they leave helps that reactor, by giving them engagement metrics on the video. Are their fake reactors, yes and we disagree on how many, I think. There are the obvious ones with the over-the-top physical reactions (that British guy, you probably know who I mean, and he isn't the only one). Then there are the less obvious ones who play to certain fandoms (the big ones). And the one or two person teams that always use the same buzz words, and expressions in every single video. At predictable times 10 seconds in, 30/40 seconds, 1 min, and so on. The ones were if you watch 10 -20 videos, you will hear the exact same words and expressions at predictable times in every one of them. We agree with the short video point. Anything that is barely longer than the song itself is not a legit reaction, Most have a minute long intro (or more) to plug their channel or their Patreon. If it's a 4/5 video at that point its just them watching it and not really reacting to it. Many of them don't even focus on the screen the entire time, or talk over the song or video. So yes there are a bunch of fake reactors on YT. They are all doing it for engagement, views and likes and comments. As long as people engage with them they will keep doing it. The only thing viewers can do is skip them.
