Daddy's internection was quiet, but it caught Mav's attention nonetheless. The fire truck in the boy's hand came to a quick stop as he looked up to see Daddy peering at him inquisitively over the edge of the novel he'd been reading. The man gave the air a couple quick sniffs and wrinkled his nose.
"I smell something stinky," Daddy remarked. "Did you make another poopy, Mavy?"
A look of surprise came across Mav's face. He'd been so focused on his playtime that he'd forgotten about the load he'd deposited in his diaper a few minutes prior. He abandoned his fire truck and sat back on his haunches to ponder his next move. The squishy lump pressing against his bum wasn't comfortable, but he wasn't ready to have his playtime interrupted by a diaper change just yet.
Thinking quickly, the boy pointed to his teddy bear, who was seated a few feet away from him.
"Oh, I see," Daddy chuckled. "So you're saying Mr. Bear is the one with the stinky diaper?"
Mav nodded emphatically, excited that his scheme appeared to be working.
"I dunno kiddo," Daddy replied with a hint of dry sarcasm. "Mr. Bear's done a pretty good job of keeping his diaper clean lately, unlike some kiddos I know. Better check your diaper too just to be safe."
And just like that, the jig was up. Another attempt to put off a diaper change would soon be thwarted. There was no way Mav's diaper would pass even a cursory inspection in the condition it was in. He might was well have crawled over to the changing table right then and there.
Oh well. At least he wouldn't have to clean his bum himself.
