June 2023 Preview: Sons of Ymir Vol. 8!

Good evening guys,

Hope you are all enjoying your weekend. We went to the mountain this weekend to see a little bit of green and to catch some... sun! Yeah, even in Scotland we see the sun once in a while. 🌞

In today's post we will take a first look at the upcoming June 2023 Release, a very special one for many reasons, full of exciting miniatures and awesome news for Highlands Miniatures.

But first... We know you wanna know, so... let's talk about the upcoming miniatures! The June 2023 Release will be composed of:

Now, let's dive into the Mounted Dwarf Heavy Cavalry!

After working on the goats for this current May 2023, we have been challenged again to create these bears -for our very first time- and even tho it seems we always end up with cute animals instead of angry, ugly animals, we are quite happy with the final result.

We tried to maintain the essence of the Sons of Ymir with these miniatures, to not deviate much from the overall norse aesthetic, but adding a few touches to reinforce the fierceness of these miniatures.

These miniatures were designed over 40x60mm square bases. These miniatures are not modular.

Hi Darrien! Thank you for your feedback! This what we currently think about the topic: When we design cavalry miniatures we always have to think about how the rider interacts with the mount. In some occasions the rider carries a weapon and a shield, so both arms and hands have to be design to hold those elements, leaving the reins of the mount completely separated from the riders, like the more recent Sunland Pistoleers or Knights of Gallia. But when the rider only carries a weapon in one hand, the second hand should be in contact with mount to balance the design of the miniature. In this case, we only have two options, to leave a hand fully attached to the reins as part of the mount, where only the rider asigned to that model can be glued to, or to leave a space between the reins that gives people a little bit more freedom -not much- to use other similar miniatures in the same position. Right now we are currently following this second path, but we are always looking for better and easier ways to do it! :)

hey i know its a past post and stuff but now that i have actually printed a set f these heavy dwarf riders off and some ram riders. Have you guys considered not doing the hand holding reins ? it is difficult to get them to line up perfectly and would also make mixing mounts easier? just a suggestion 😁 amazing models

Guys, Kings of War has Dwarf Cav and Mounted Dwarf heroes. You pretty much already know how to play if you've played any version of Oldhammer. TBH, these new dwarves are what earned my patreon $$$ for a time. Bravo!
