She is the main character of a medieval English myth famous for her kindness and beauty. According to myth, she was married to the Earl of Chester who was cruel as a feudal lord and collected exaggerated tributes from his vassals. Compassionate with the situation, Lady Godiva asks her husband to stop the excessive charging. The Count accepts, but with the condition of humiliating his wife, asking her to tour the entire fief on horseback completely naked. In gratitude for that act in their favor, all the inhabitants agreed to stay in their homes with doors and windows closed while Lady Godiva finished the tour. This version of the myth was painted by Collier who was an English painter of the Victorian era considered one of the most prominent portrait painters of the time.

Lady Godiva es el personaje principal de un mito medieval inglés famosa por su bondad y belleza. Según el mito, estaba casada con el conde de Chester quien era cruel como señor feudal y cobraba tributos exagerados a sus vasallos. Compadecida con la situación, Lady Godiva le pide a su esposo pare con el cobro excesivo. El Conde acepta, pero con la condición de humillar a su mujer de por medio, pidiéndole que recorriese todo el feudo a caballo completamente desnuda. En agradecimiento a aquel acto en favor de ellos, todos los habitantes acordaron mantenerse en sus hogares con puertas y ventanas cerrada mientras Lady Godiva terminaba el recorrido.
Esta versión del mito fue pintada por Collier quien fue un pintor inglés de la época victoriana considerado uno de los retratistas más destacados de la época.
