2.4 Beta #1: The Female Titan!

Hello everyone! As promised... Beta #1 of version 2.4 is here, along with more details about development plans for the coming months :)

Originally, the plan for this week was to begin working on the animations for the Female Titan’s ability kit. However, due to an external situation, I’ve had to rearrange the task order and as a result, the focus will now shift to the main mechanic of this update: The Female Titan’s passive — an expansion of the nature of the Titan Shifters.

Some context first: when I started Shingeki no Craft, I had only watched the Attack on Titan anime. I hadn’t read the manga or seen any spoilers or explanations — I enjoyed theorizing with @Zabat about what might happen next, episode by episode haha. That’s basically the reason why I initially thought that the inherited passives of the shifter titans were something unique that could only happen when one shifter consumed another. During AoT’s final arc, it’s revealed that the Female Titan’s passive is "enhancing the consumed passives of other titans" — and on top of that, when Falco gains Beast Titan powers without having consumed Zeke — I realized the rules of the AoT universe weren’t what I had believed. Inheriting a shifter titan passive isn’t a one-time event, and there must be a way to obtain them beyond simply consuming the previous holder.

This is essentially the biggest challenge of the Female Update: reviewing and restructuring a large portion of SnC’s shifter-core system to move from the current “unique passives” model to “multiple passives.” That will be the focus of Beta 2 in the future!

In other news, this post will be my farewell from SnC for a while. I really need to take at least two weeks to catch up with my master’s degree. I’m at the end of the semester and have a lot... a lot to finish and submit. Maybe there won’t be a Patreon post in August — I’d love to deliver a stable Beta 2, but the challenge right now feels big alongside everything I have going on with the academy.

That said, it doesn’t mean the machine will stop. Quite the opposite! I’ve been thinking for a while about the script for the next cinematic/song, and I already have a solid idea of what I want to do for this titan. I’d like to talk to Iliya (composer) to see if we can agree on something between this and next week, so I can begin looking for the songwritter/singer. Likewise, the ability kit for the Female Titan is already defined — what remains is to meet with Doc to finalize the scope.

That’s more or less the current state of things — some done, some in progress, and definitely a lot left to do haha . I’d really love to finish this update during my vacation so I can at least get started on the War Hammer Titan before the end of the year!
