and Islam is a religion, not a place

Great video, by the way, it is Muslim people when you talk about the group of people practicing Islam and not "Islamic"

Some years ago my Geopolitical professor made the same question David did: Is Chinese or democracy more efficient and which model will prevail....

I think the issue of birth and children is much more than just individualistic mentality. As men y’all wouldn’t understand but women are stuck with the majority of child care. And these days women are working and want to be their own people and don’t wanna drop all that to just become a mother. And that’s a very simple explanation of that.

Is it any easier to get a social aid for buing an apartment if you're a foreigner? I saw a fairly small youtuber who's a housewife and white foreigner, her korean husband working ordinary corporate job and they upgrade apartment every year almost. I wonder how they can do it in this context?

I'm feeling guilty for owning my home.

Off the agenda but as predicted during the last after news - Lisa afterall will be bringing out only 2 songs!

Can you talk about kpop stars and their income, cause from what I understood they don’t get paid a lot but are buying buildings and apartments in soul so it got me confused.

Also when you say buying a house do you mean an actual house or an apartment? I’ve seen a lot apartments in South Korea and they don’t look that big for an average family. Obviously if you’re rich you can afford bigger apartments which I have seen too.

Lol 😊😊

Damn you girl!! Can’t you just let a b be nice for once. Hahahaha

I think wherever you are, if you lived in the capital or in any of the major cities, housing would be astronomically expensive. Singapore's private property is very expensive too and few of us have what's called landed property (a house with a garden) but we have public housing which is subsidised and way more affordable. You can also use your CPF (a type of national savings/pension fund) to buy your property. As a result, nearly 88 per cent of the population owns their own flat/house, The publlic housing is pretty decent too. I understand Korea too has public housing. Is that easily accessible to the younger people?

Don't feel bad, Makes up for all the times it was inconvenient for you and convenient for us in Asia :-) Have fun.

As a result of the housing crisis is there any thoughts of building more infrastructures outside Seoul? What are the housing prices in other metropolitan areas of a South Korea i.e Busan, Incheon, Gwangju, Daegu etc? What is the quality of life there? Are there lots of jobs?

Asmaa Hassan

Meanwhile, in the US, I have some friends my age (22) that are buying houses currently. I can't wait to understand more about the housing situation.

Born and raised in Auckland, New Zealand we too have the same Housing crisis that you face in Seoul. It's ridiculously over priced and too high to even consider buying a home in Auckland. Even the poorest part of Auckland is in the South and the homes their are even selling for over a million dollars its insane. I belong to the working poor class (yes its a thing 🤦‍♀️)where I'm working and living with my mother because it's just way to expensive. Only option I have is to go into buying a home with my sister under the Kainga Ora scheme ( https://kaingaora.govt.nz/) that will help with a home grant while utilizing your kiwisaver for the deposit. Kiwisaver is an initiative created by our government where you nominate between 3-10% of your salary into a protected fund where your employer matches what you save of your salary and the government give you $1000 to start it but that's given back once you retire. Also you can't touch your saver till you retire or need it to help with things like first home deposit, sickness etc. I'm super grateful for what I have and not being a less fortunate as others. Does this happen anywhere else? Does your government help communities and those less fortunate? I always thought this was an issue in NZ till you guys started talking about it on DK News. Love your content by the way 😊Stay strong fams✊🏽

I feel bad that this aftershow is so convenient for me today. But also I will enjoy it. Heading into that most expensive city NYC. Apartments are so expensive you only have a few options: be super rich, live in the projects (govt subsidized housing), have lived there for generations in the same place or just decide to live here for a few years while you go broke paying for rent. It’s just another example of wealth disparity.

Cathy

Is housing and real estate expensive only in Seoul? What about just outside of Seoul? Is there no infrastructure investment to make living/working/commuting to or from the suburbs more desireable? Are there no high-speed trains or express buses for commuting? Though I live in the NYC area, I have no desire to live in Manhattan where the cost of living and crowding are ridiculous at times. I have been doing fine for decades commuting by rail, express bus, subway and bike, and the occasional taxi or rideshare. I also find that the quality of life is generally better as you get further away from the city. I bought my place because the mortgage + maintenance was just about the same as the rent in my neighborhood for the same square footage.

that's 4am for us GMT+8 😂

In the middle of USA house prices are around $270,000 for a 4 bedroom, 2.5 bathroom home built in the mid 2000s. This is in the suburbs about 15 miles out of the city. Interest rates are still low and not much of a downpayment required.

Ye a casual ugly house starts at 1 mill here some 2m+

Wow 5am KST is waaaaaaaaaaay too early for me. Have fun.

Regards to All

Yeah, are ya'll really gonna be ok at 5am KST to talk?🤔

BTStrash

I'm just wondering why the Aftershow is this early 🤪 Also, Lee SooMan's "K-pop will have its second revival in China" didn't age well.

Mara C

I live in a high cost of living city, and even a very mediocre old apartment is over $500k. However, the downpayment is ideally 20%, but can be as low as 5%. You just need to prove you have a stable job and then your monthly mortgage is about the same as your rent. Is there a reason why you have to put such a giant amount of downpayment down in Korea? I feel like lowering the downpayment even if the overall mortgage has higher interest over time would still allow young people to have hope to buy an apartment and not give up on life. Did you guys see that China is now banning feminine looking men in media? All I can say is thank god HYBE/BTS stopped caring about China years ago...
