Since this is the month of October, will you guys be checking out anything horror thriller themed, like Strangers From Hell or Sweet Home?(if you haven't already that is)

I do agree that a lot of the plot and twists are cliché. The one big thing that made it different somehow was that in a lot of these stories the participants are often forced in to the games, or tricked. In this they actually participated volontary, and there was this element of possibility to end if the majority wanted to. But I think one of the things that made it so popular as well was the setting. It was not this common post punk apocalyptic feeling but these kids games and playgrounds and pastel colours that made it more "absurd" in a way, that I think people like. But the VIPs, jeez they were bad! But I kind of liked the series as a whole, and definetely look forward to season 2.

You have a point. I did see a lot of inconsistencies like this. For ex: they could have voted to stop the marbles game right? But they just played it and killed their most precious ally

I gotta agree with David on this one. As soon as I started the series, I got reminded of Alice in Borderland (Japanese series on Netflix), then the Hunger Games, Parasite and other stuff that deal with poor V.S rich and surviving. Also, Alice in Borderland was very mental and hard to predict in my opinion, so having that comparison made Squid Game feel boring, don’t understand the worldwide success! I guess having weird rich Americans in the show helped it become more popular lol, cause Westerns are included in the exotic Korean setting Maybe another thing was the hair dye at the end🥲 I must also say that I’m judging based on my standards after watching many kdramas and this one had all the basics covered in terms of quality (cinematography, good acting, good character development) so I guess it is not a pain to watch either and people just want to know what happens at the end

There is another Netflix show that is similar. People think the writer from Squid Games copies that show. The show Alice in Borderland. It is a Japanese show and it is really good. In my opinion better than Squid Game. The games are more complex and the story is more complicated. I think hype comes from the aesthetics of the show and the exoticness of Korean games. Other than that I don't think it deserves all the hype.

Lee Byung-hun was definitely the plot twist for me. I totally agree David's perspective of the wanting the game to be more brainy, and also the ending was kind of disappointing. But I still really enjoyed this show especially the soundtrack. Also the fact that we are paying to watch this show of people dying and enjoying this show...

Wow so excited to hear there will be more, but totally agree after ep 6 I feel like I saw a lot of what was about to happen. I don’t know why I kept picturing the saw movie rather than a hunger games scenario but also makes sense. I honestly loved just seeing the games and your commentary! Hopefully in the soop next, I already preordered 😂

i did not see the ending coming lol. I was hooked on every episode and thought it was a really well done drama. The one thing that I was annoyed by was the atrocious acting of the VIPs. Surely they can get better actors for season 2. One thing that confuses me is why the old man was willing to do the tug-of-war. Even tho he gave them tips for playing he still could have easily died in that one so did he not care if he died?

I think a lot of people saw that ending reveal coming however the show did a good job of building tension surrounding each game. Other than that the show was fairly predictable if you've watched a lot of movies/dramas.
