AESPA and SM are causing some trouble(?) to the KPOP industry!!!

lol tbh its a video for the sake of the sponsor but i do truly believe that SM is leveling up the general standards of kpop live performances and the way they're being shot.

Camerawork has been such a big complaint from Kpop fans for a LONG time.

So it’s taken a full month for HYBE to post their in-house MV utilizing this camera technique and selected TXT’s ‘Frost’, which is apropos as the song is a hard beat so they can add sharp edits to the crazy camera angles. The song itself, a B-track, has been out since April, but Big Hit have been heavily promoting it with an MV possibly due to the Star Seekers connections (not sure). But it also allowed them a second dip with the in-house Studio Choom-like MV. And the group doesn’t need to promote on music shows, which is tiresome for the group/staff. As a limited promotional tool, it’s OK. As a replacement for the camera man, not so much. Inkigayo and M Countdown are refining this technique but sometimes the movements are vertiginous. Music Bank is still “old-fashioned” in that I enjoy the program but I’m an older consumer and not the target market. What’s for certain is our American artists/shows are light years behind and who knows when we’ll see anything comparable on our telly in the near future.

HI, Danny and David... :) One of the best camera work I've seen on on public tv earlier in the year was SEVENTEEN's Hit performance on the Ellen Show in January... Now that was top tier, and you'll see how they optimized the camera angles for the choreo and performance. That was the moment I truly understood what excellent camera work can do to elevate a choreo. Also, just wanted to share this, SVT just tweeted out an Audio Kit inviting Carats to make their own sound by mixing it up... They basically said, we make our own music, now come make your own. :)) and less than 30 minutes in we're getting awesome sound mixes from talented CARATs.. :)

The problem with SM's camera work is that it's like filming in a room alone by themselves. They have the freedom to do whatever camera angle they want because they have no audience to deal with. But when Korea goes into "living with covid" and an audience is allowed back into shows, they'll have to readjust. Same for award shows, because the producers will obviously want to show how much money they spend on the venue and the large audience that will attend. So the camera angles tutorial is cool and all....if you're a music video producer "creator". But for live events, I don't think it helps much.

David needs to calm TF down. Does he realize how much of an investment is behind that Aespa performance? Literally millions of dollars - not just in technology but in labor and physical and capital costs as well, just for you to view a 3-minute MV that is replicated in their in-house stage that they can pipe to Music Bank or Inkigayo. And you want KBS/MBC/MNET to replicate that for the 25+ groups, every week for each of their songs? You know realistically that is not happening, not happening. For the bigger agencies who can create pre-recorded content, perhaps (perhaps) that is possible based on how they want that content to look for each group/song/concept. They're not going to follow SM "just because" - they'll do want they want because that's right for for their own business.

Agree the camera work in SAVAGE was epic. I think it's leveling up on what IG studio_choom has already been doing.

So you're saying the hard work tht cameraman's hv done for years are all useless and they should be jobless... they work from the bottom to get the ideal job for them and here an influencer the talking down on them... hais...

Md Ilham

This might evolve into something similar like the Cheer guide where all groups record their camera workings and distribute to various TVS before their performances, might also replace stage rehearsals

BUSAYO

Make that money good sirs

Lauren Freeman

I 100% agree with David
