Also it's more than just "differing beauty standards", it's because being pale and being tan are seen as personality characteristics that's the issue (being pale and innocent for instance). Also saying Koreans wanting to be pale has nothing to do with race is very naive... At least admit it's classist. Many people in Asian heritages (like my own) look down on darker skinned people because they're tan which means they were out working in the fields/construction and not wealthy enough to not have to work or have the ability to work indoors.

I feel like maybe now there are people in Korean viewing being tanned as "sexy" and seeing that as "positive" but actually viewing darker skinned people as more sexual is a big issue and is inherently dehumanizing (I think it's okay to be sexual just not being viewed as such because of skin tone alone).
