Wild Light Tour Changeover Mix

Ever since 65daysofstatic has been a band, we have been doing cut-ups, unofficial remixes and bootleg releases alongside writing music of our own. In the very early days these kinds of things would appear on DIY 65 CDRs alongside our 'proper' songs. But then we started working with actual record labels, who were keen to remind us that copyright is a thing and who didn't really wanna get sued for the sake of some weird noise band from Sheffield.

So we shifted our penchant for adding artisan glitches to hyper-produced pop music, doing unasked-for remixes and drowning random songs in jungle loops into a different space. We started making changeover mixes to play between the bands at our shows instead. Always an under-appreciated moment at a gig that, the between-bands period. It's a great time to gently build some anticipation.

This year's Wild Light Decade tour was no different. We will gather our thoughts and get some sleep and maybe say something more about the tour later, but for now we will simply say - thanks everybody who came out, it was a fantastic tour. We truly have no words to explain how much we appreciated each and every one of you. And this very much includes the various people who messaged best wishes that couldn't make it to any of the shows.

So many people have asked about this mix that we are probably not going to limit it just to the Patreon. In the coming days/weeks we will throw it up on YouTube or somewhere, but it is hard to say how long it will withstand the hail of algorithmic copyright claims out there. We shall see...

Like most mixes, the cutups and remixes are weighted toward the first half hour because, in theory, the changeover between bands should only last that long. As the mix continues, it mostly segues into bangers that get increasingly sad. Because if you're still hearing this mix through the P.A towards the hour mark, something has gone badly wrong and maybe we should start lowering those expectations.

We will return to wrapping up the Wild Light Decade project next week... In the meantime, regards the surprisingly popular tour merch: if you couldn't make the shows or if we didn't have your size in stock at the time, there's a repress of all the designs currently in the works and you can pre-order HERE. They should start shipping in a week or so. (And remember, as patrons, you can use the secret code 'merchbot3000' to get 20% off anything.)

Oh yeah - and there was a batch of Paul's/Polinski's 'Telex From MIDI City' vinyl available at the final Berlin show too, which prompted various messages from people not in Berlin about how they could find it. If you'd like a copy of that, you can grab it via his BANDCAMP.

That's all for now. See you next week, friends. Enjoy the mix.

Thanks for dropping this! We were jamming in Bristol during the changeover, top mix

Thanks for this! I was trying to shazam this while was playing before your show, I only managed to get two tracks right ๐Ÿ˜…

YES

Sinnie

Yeah. I also caught that notion. I am a tad nervous, to be honest.

Drove 1500 km to see ya in Antwerp and Amsterdam. Went through the pouring rain, took the bicycle, metro, campervan. You never saw me so lucky, smiling, dancing like on those two evenings. Guys, you're one of the best live bands I ever experienced. Probably you don't know, but the intensity of your gigs is outstanding - and I see a lot of bands, music, artists on stages throughout a year. So keep that in mend and ... please .... come back again soon. I now that it is hard for touring bands these days, but consider it .... you make people happy and smiling! And next time, please, somewhere in the South of Germany. But I would also drive some 1000 kilometers and more again, if there would be the occasion!

this is exactly the #content i hoped for when signing up for the patreon, thank you for this and everything leading up to it!

Jeff M

Seconded! Awesome show and would very much enjoy and buy a live album!

Louise

Thank you for the insane show 65 ! It was truly among the best concerts I've been to in my life. My one big wish right now is that one day, hopefully, an official live album of one of these shows comes out. I would buy that in a heartbeat... These shows and especially the Wild Light full live playthrough deserve more than to be forgotten to time. Also congrats on the audio engineer that mixed these shows, the sound was absolutely perfect, much better than many big concerts I've seen recently !

On the 2021 tour mix they used James's "She's A Star" for this exact reason ("so frightened of all this static... static... static" ๐Ÿคฃ) and came onstage to a Leonard Cohen song whose name escapes me but looped the line "I just can't believe the static coming on" ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

Paul Ford

Fuck those algorithms. Any artist would be blessed to be a part of such an epic mash up. The BBS/XCX track is crazy, and any artist that includes 65 or static in their lyrics is openly inviting you to put them in your mix imo.

Jonathan Lumb

Thanks for the Berlin show,it was great (except for the sound at times).Hope to see you again one day, although your words towards the end of the show sounded rather uncertain....

Paul Boskoop

Those Unreleased/Unreleasable CDs are still some of my favourites to this day. Reading this is a fantastic start to the weekend. Thank you.
