🛠️ 3D Printing Tip : Flexible Build Plates

Hello Everyone!

I am kicking off my 3D Printing Tips with flexible build plates for resin 3D printers!

📝 What is it?

Flexible build plates include two pieces. First piece is a magnetic block that you stick to your build plate. Second piece is thin metal sheet that sticks to the magnetic block. So it looks like a little sandwich, build plate + magnetic brick + metal sheet.

📝 Why does it matter?

The thin magnetic sheet is flexible and removable. So removing your prints is a breeze. You just bend it a little and it pops right off. Very helpful for large surface area prints and my pre-supported models. No scraper needed!

💰 Okay, how much is it?

Around $15 USD!

Here are some examples you can purchase here!

I have tried a few different brands and they all work the same. Just make sure you buy one that fits your build plate!

I had added one to my printer. Love it, only downside is the one I got has a larger tab where the logo is. It tore a chunk out of the resin vat. Followed the manufacturer directions and everything. Got lucky and it didn't go all the way through.

I had to do this for my Mono X. Was worried because I'm not naturally someone who tinkers with machinery but it was really simple and worked right away.

Just to add, some printers need a z-limit spacer to be added as the extra thickness of the build plate means it doesn't activate the bottom sensor. These can be found on Thingiverse for many different printer models.
