Quick update

Hey Folks,

A quick update for you on my progress with the next video drop.

I had planned to cover the escapement construction in a single episode, but there is so much good stuff to show in this part of the build, the video has grown to over 25 minutes, with still a bit more shooting to to be completed.

I'm reluctant to cut too much of it out, so I'm splitting it into 2 separate videos of approx 15 minutes each. One covering some of the escapement fittings, and the second covering the pallets (above) and first tick of the mechanism. Its led to a bit of a delay in the release, but I think it will be a better result leaving more detail in and releasing an extra episode.

The first of these videos should be up for $3+ patrons by the end of this week, and the second one will follow approx a week later.

Cheers,

Chris.

Thanks Chris! And a 4 inch rotary table? Looks like a tiddler. Sorry for my many questions....

Toby Griffiths

Hey Toby, this is the motor/speed control I use: https://www.sherlinedirect.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=product.display&product_id=1242&CFID=129198364&CFTOKEN=66820455 and the belt is the extra long version. I can't seem to find the part number using their search, but I recall speaking to the main guy in the warehouse to track them down when I purchased them.

Hi Chris, I'm trying out Fusion 360. It's nice and easy, I have only ever used 2d AutoCad. I need to know, what Sherline motor and belt are you using to cut the wheels? Myself and the guys at Sherline are not sure.

Toby Griffiths

Hey Toby, I'd love to but I think it would cross a line regarding intellectual property. If you're game, get onto Fusion360 and have a crack at modeling it for yourself. Its an excellent project to teach yourself CAD :)

Hi Chris, Just received my copy of the Wilding Clock plans. As it is all in Imperial sizes and seeing as you have already drawn it all up on a computer... is it possible to have a copy of your plans for the clock? It would make life so much easier to have a modern, printable copy... not just for me, but all of your fellow Patreons. Cheers and keep going!

Toby Griffiths

Certainly - I get all of my needle and escapement files from here: http://www.artcotools.com/grobet-escapement-files/

Great work as always. Any chance you can point me in the direction of a good set of escapement / needle files?

Cheers for the update Chris.

Honestly, it can be a bit of a chore getting a good polish, and I'm rarely happy either. The last video will be on the finishing, but I won't be spending much time on the steel parts, for the most part they are about as good as I can get them! I use diamantine powder on a tin lap for black polishing, as per George Daniels' "Watchmaking". Still a long way to go before I am truly happy with my results, but I'm getting a more consistent result than I was a year or two ago :)

Hi Chris, as a wannabe clock maker, part way through the ME Jubilee Clock, a video devoted entirely to finishing and polishing would be superb. Just looking at the mirror finish on the pallets makes me wonder how you get there. I can never get rid of every last scratch .

Colin Glanville

Hey Jeff, yes I posted a video last week, should be just above this one in your feed. Another one out in a few days. Cheers, Chris.

Ohhhhh, that's a beautiful piece of work. I don't mind if it's a week or a month or a five-minute or a thrity-minute video. I can't wait to see this clock evolve even more!

The more you get into the details of how and why, plus the techniques the better. Thank you for that. It is much appreciated.

Edgar

Looking forward to it!
