Ladies and Gentlemen, it's time to start showing what I have been working on in regards to the fortress.
I have been working on the advanced modules first. I also want to do a simple gate and palisade elements but want to get the more complex geometry locked down first.
Before I continue, let me say, that the top edge wall shape is just one of the options I have in mind. I also want to do a same-height option with peek/shoot through slots and then a zig-zag shape. But I like the options I have chosen for the test builds as I believe they will work well for gaming, providing good shooting space options and also hiding space for Line-of-Sight rules.
Also regading looks/skins, I have sketched on a wood plank design. I also want to have the option of having the lower section (the base of the elements) to be made of rock or grass. For the grass version, in reality that would be a slanted slope going up, so I am not sure if that is an important detail. If yes, I can make elements to add to the front and back to get that look. Let me know if you want that!
The wall element is simple and straightforward. I want to include options to have climbing ladders printed on the module but also will make separate stairs elements for going up and down.
The "connector" between the wall elements is what I call a bastion (not sure if that's the same in English). It extends the wall and also is a little higher, giving you a good position to defend the wall against enemies that have reached the wall and are trying to hide there.
The gate module is a little higher tower element that has the option of building an entrance into it. I will add some columns at the bottom left and right, because I don't like the unfolded end, making the module a bit flimsy. Also looking at the gate I think we need some flag poles and the usual shield and weapon options for deco variation (all optional).
Then we have the tower element. I have put it in an corner but of course you could also have just a straight long wall across the table and put towers in there.
And then you can combine all the modules as you like. Here I have made a more elaborate gate configuration.

I also see the high tower I made for the dice tower experiment as the central structure of such a fortress, so that will be in the same texturing style to make it fit in there.

That's all I have so far. What I want to add are the stair elements I have mentioned before. Then I want to make optional roof-add-ons for the towers and also I am thinking of some "bent" shape connectors so you don't have to go in a square/rectanglar shape but can do rounded wall versions. And finally I am thinking about a larger "regal" gate version that is wider - for the chieftains village! *updated because I forgot* I also want to do a stand-alone watch tower with a more framework structure and the hut on top!
This wraps up my latest WIP report. Let me know what you think! Do you have other ideas/wishes? Any details that are missing? I wanna hear about it now! Not after I have locked down the designs :)
Until next time, stay safe and keep building!
Chris
