You kind of expect someone to reply: "That's some conspiracy dogshit, Ald! What in the hell are you talking about? We don't do THAT. You're totally out of line!"
Ah, but no, that's kind of how it goes, even if Duane's put the sacrifice in terms a little harsher than "Sending a twin to the gods."
Ever since we arrived at the shrine I've played with the established shifting of Duane's sanity and coherence. Since it's always dark in the shrine due to the storm, it can be hard to know for sure if Duane is himself or if Duane's the nighttime monster. We want him to be his monstrous self when he acts so cruel and bigoted and atrocious. We don't want that to be our hero. But the fact is these outbursts and this insecurity are facets of his personality, and not the fault of a slavering zombie.
And that sucks, man.
It also sucks that the Gefendur faith is a lot darker than feuding celestial twin sisters and skull decor. It's hard to know who to even want to get behind. It would be nice if our representative from an alternative faith could be a little more civil and charitable to these ostensible victims, but he's not making much of a case to more sceptical kids like Siya by shouting at them.
It's all a bit of a mess.
