Originally this chapter ended with her "We're all going to die," but I decided it needed just a bit more. Three pages left!
I think Quigley finally managed to say something that breached Duane's defenses - which of course had the effect of immediately pissing him off because he distantly knows the Plat is correct, and Duane is losing sight of what really matters in favour of fellating a Cause. Protecting people is what is most important; protecting the helpless. It shouldn't matter what country they live in or what god they worship. Duane's forgotten this because the anger and the Cause feel better. He needs them to protect himself. Anyway, there's no time to sit down and have a think about it, but it will stick in his head longer than any of Quigley's other nihilism or insults.
