I'm working off a gut feeling here, but Sette Frummagem wasn't able to command the squishies, and Duane just went through a lot of soul-searching... I feel like he's probably given up a lot of his personal eels. Commanding Duane not to end himself is different from commanding him to defile a corpse. He might be able to resist.
