Yaaaay, yes :) I really exult in these quiet displays of character growth. It's a subtler extension of the stranger things she admitted in the earlier scene in the chapel, when the pain babies were harassing her. Sette isn't delusional; when you corner her, she really will stop lying to herself.

2024-01-18 22:46:17 +0000 UTCJust shouting out my appreciation for the casual, tired acknowledgement from Sette that her home life and upbringing has been rough - when at the beginning of the story and for a long time after, she would've insisted that it was all totally awesome. Now she doesn't even try to lie or misdirect or say that the khert is making stuff up because she knows better and knows that Duane knows better. I also appreciate the tired, unspoken implication that it's just how things are - born a Frummagem, that's how Frummagems live, and that's what her life will be. I just hope she reaches a point where she realizes that there are other paths she can take - I think she's getting there, very slowly but surely. Also I hope that now Duane has a better understanding of where all Sette's lying and braggadocio comes from and why.

2024-01-18 22:33:25 +0000 UTCYour story is so rich in observations I've never heard voiced before, but that I recognize and delight to hear described. There should be a word, if there isn't one, for the fine and formidable distinction between sharing your self with someone and having them know you from any other source or method. What anyone sees from outside, is never remotely like what's confided oneself seeking to be known to another.
