Duane knew she was here in town, somewhere, but imagine who you've for seven years assumed is you and your daughter's murderer suddenly streaming live on Youtube right in front of your green sparkly nose. And your little runt cohort can reach through the screen to have her way with her, but you sure can't.

Duane can trace pretty much every unhappiness in his life back to Queen Sonorie, right back to juvenile military service doing strange things to his brother's mind. It was called the Foi-Hellick Affair, but it would never have got off the ground without Sonorie. Even this very day and Sette's little friend's death. That construct facility was only under the shrine because of whatever monstrosities Sonorie has been making out of Vienne Quigley's work. It was that goddamned construct facility that enticed the Lions to invade and behave so shamefully!

And there she bloody is! And here he is! And she is at their mercy!

Real people don't have character arcs. They have drunken character zigzags, spitting and hollering against revelation and growth all the while.

" it's both wrong and chaos-inducing to try to control people." Learning this less is so important, and can really bring you so much peace. You can't control other people, only yourself and your own reaction to them. Very wise.

Like, Duane's epiphany about one of his biggest flaws is remarkable in that he even had one, not that he can't fully live up to it right away. Overlong real life example: My father-in-law was over 50 when he told my ex-wife, "I realized something, [Daughter-Name] – other people have feelings too." That was his big epiphany. I don't think he's *ever* going to realize what he really should, that it's both wrong and chaos-inducing to try to control people.

That realistic understanding of character growth as hardly ever a neat "arc" brings the comic to life so much. No wonder they feel like real people.
