I know Duane is acting a damn fool but man, he is being pulled in a hundred different directions and he feels like everyone's little bitch. If nothing else, Sessine made him feel like he could make a difference in the world; that he hasn't been through hell for nothing. But Sette has never made him feel like anything but a manipulated moron, and he feels that very keenly now, after seeing all her sudden abilities.
He doesn't know what to do! So he clings to what he DOES know, and it's all ugly, petty, small, and hateful.
The shrine's lessons would matter a lot more if he hadn't met Lemuel up on that roof. Not only has Mikaila's survival completely unmoored him, but Lemuel's chastisements and rejection shook him to his core. Well, he can do THIS. He can make sure that bitch dies.

He couldn't stay away from big Sessine even if he wanted to. She pretty much owns the place he's stuck in half of the day. One has to really pity Duane in all this, even if he's being a jerk.
