Not only is it shared affection for Matty that makes them tolerate each other, but the understanding they've developed as they've spent time together, and learned how they each tick. Jivi still mostly thinks Quigley needs to be punched in the mouth more, but he's also seen the bastard just emotionally broken in two. He gets him. He makes him think of his mom, for reasons I can't really talk about yet.
And Quigley just cannot be a cynical dipshit when faced with Jivi's selfless goodness. Jivi crumbles that to bits, even when Quigs has his little instinctual slip-up here and thinks he has to compensate him. No, of course he doesn't. And he knows he doesn't. He can't doubt it, not after all he's seen. This kid is just good. There is some good in the world. Matty drew Jivi to the both of them. The ol' Kasslynian principle of like to like, just like Mathis learned about in school.
