I don't think she wants you in her gang, False Brother Jacaranda.

I feel the need to say explicitly that Lady Ilganyag cannot manufacture artificial memories. It probably wasn't apparent enough when she was with Duane, but she could only use his own experiences on him. She'd slide her way into those memories, take on identities of people from his past, but she cannot just conjure this stuff from nowhere.

So what Sette saw in her nest - and in fact what Duane saw in Alderode's future - are all real. We don't necessarily know the context, but they're real things that will happen. They can potentially be overwritten by timeline changes - nearly anything can - but otherwise they are inevitable.

Quite sure the importance of "cruelty" in this narrative isn't as simple as sadism. He wants the soul to encounter cruelty before coming to the khert.... perhaps to re-build a godhead that shys away from infliction of pointless pain.

Nice :)

So the story thy are supposed to live out is always being born twins, and the older one letting the younger be holy murdered. NICE PARENTS YOU GOT THERE!

I went back to p. 18_56, and it looks like the First Soul is dead there. The First Soul isn’t supposed to die, but to be reincarnated there; it suggests that whatever happens with that future flash Sette saw, it will destroy the First Soul for good. Ilganyag wanted her to see that. I wonder if there’s a chance that Sette does something else entirely— that she tells all the pain in the silver to obey her and turn on Ilganyag, and that’s what we saw in that memory’s third panel. I suspect there’s a good chance that this memory is actually a fork in the road— a chance for Sette to chose differently. But ilganyag is trying to nudge her to see the memory a different way, to change that future. It’s all about perception: is it a memory of Sette obeying Ilganyag, or defying her? Ilganyag says it’s the former.

Sette misses him too. He'd know what all this means, probably.

I can't believe anadyne is still conscious enough to have opinions about what's happening to her. Poor, poor anadyne. I JUST WANT HER TO BE HAPPY!!!!! But how could she possibly recover from her multi-faceted trauma? I can't imagine it.

Love to imagine the AU where Jacaranda made it past character creation this incarnation cycle, and Hairyarse Frummagen was a proper rogue in the Longarse Frummagen freak patrol Or he was until he becomes a lion monk when Sette hits the sackerficin' age

Love that panel of the Lady's talon on Sette's shoulder!

Keep blaming your ex, but you've recently been gloating about writing this particular cruel life for our Sette yourself. Worst mom just wants to lose her khert ankle monitor to find dudes and blow with a fake story of "I'm doing it cause I love you and your brother"!

Rogbull

It just suddenly hit me with this page, but yeah I really miss Duane. Granted he'd be less than useless here, but still.

JarJar

"It's done, it's already decided, now you just gotta do it" Laying the peer pressure on a bit thick there aye?

Fitzy

A real internal battle has to be raging here. Betraying a fellow Frummagem for your own benefit is one thing but for somebody else? Somebody else that's not even an honorary Frummagem themselves on top of that?

There's several small details that don't square. Lady I's telling has her and The Man (apparently) willingly enter the khert, while I remember there's been at least one instance somewhere where it was stated or strongly implied that she, at least, was deliberately imprisoned there. The big alteration to the khert was, if she's to be believed, performed after the two had entered it...so if that's the case, one would think she'd be able to do her own rewrite from within. Since she hasn't done so, it stands to reason that either she can't because she's lacking all the tools to do so *or* she doesn't plan to do so - whether just not right away or never is up for debate. I do believe the very basic foundation of her tale and I believe that she feels that Mistakes Were Made when they altered the khert...but I also believe that her biggest motivation for all this is that she'd REALLY like to be outside the khert again. Other things can wait until that little conundrum is taken care of.

Feelin' real Minority Report about Sessine's insistence on inevitability here. "The others didn't see their futures. You can still choose!" Also, 'beloved' 😭 Man. Sette has been abandoned in so many times and ways in her life, but THAT one triggered the clock, huh.

CD

Nothing substantive to add, but I really like the panel of tittybird pushing Sette forward. The contrast of the pure black to the color of the khert is quite evocative

Renee

"Help us or the lizard will [open her cage]". Seems like helping them and opening her cage may not be the same thing, hmm?

I think there's a way for Ssael 2.0 to feel like his suffering had to mean something, couldn't have been pointless, and then Ssael 2.1 never has his faith in the Twins' existence shaken so he's really mad about it. But some are saying Murkoph or Rortide also

Man it feels like the entire weight of every event in the story is being held back by this one page. Sette gripping that silver is like pulling the nail that breaks the dam. Seems like it's all gonna change after this. It's gonna be a long wait this weekend.

Rifter

I'm positive that 'the man' isn't Ssael because of the line about cruelty, which Lady Ilganyag has said at least thrice now. Given that one of the pillars of Ssaelism is rejecting the twins sacrifice, there's just no way for them to be the same person

Kay

It does seem suspicious that Lady Ilganyag is heaping all this stuff on the kid's shoulders, trying to overwhelm her with the inevitability of this moment. Something very similar to this happened back at the Nevergreen when Stockyard just assumed Sette was going to do what he said. Of course, Lady Ilganyag is a lot scarier than Stockyard, this situation is a lot more dire (no window to jump out of), and Sette is a lot more torn up over Duane and Sara and the rest of her fragile little friends. She needs a lucky break!

Ashley

If they were inevitable and Sette couldn't choose something different then Lady I wouldn't have had to show her that memory to prove it. It would be enough for Lady I to have seen the memory. I think Sette can probably reject fate if she wants to.
